Mies's Dream

It is an incredible time to be in this planet. I feel we are in front of a new Renaissance, a new era… That will affects us in such a deep level, besides if we are aware or not.

I was so surprised to see that Borders, one of the biggest book stores is closing all the shops in Chicago, except one, Blockbuster was last year, the biggest video company, all the travel agencies as well, and the list can keep going.
I see our homes as Mies Van der Rohe dream, very minimalistic.  No more books, no more Cds, DVDs. Probably the kitchen will be reduced to a minimum as we see the growth of the “healthy” frozen food.

Should we still have a TV? Looks difficult, in my perspective everything will be run in the tablets or the computers.  Makes me think about cinemas and theatres.
And what about art? Probably is going to change the media, as happen with the pictures, no more typical frames hanging in the walls. They could be projections on clean walls or mood lighting.

All these changes are affecting the way we relate to people, how we interact, how we get informed, the decisions we make, and all this will be reflected in our homes.

It is a very creative moment for a designer, thinking about the immediate future, and how everything will change and how we will respond to the challenge.
