Minds...

Our Home as a Stage

Somehow our lives are like a play, with no rehearsals… Well I’m not really sure about that… meaning that experiences can be considered a rehearsal, if we capitalized on it and use it. Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity is, “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. We can consider ourselves sane at least a little bit.

Studies demonstrate the impact of effective architecture in schools

Habana - Cuba
Recent research suggests that subtle changes to a learning environment can significantly alter a child's academic performance. The study, compiled by the Girls' Day School Trust (England and Wales) indicates that girls and boys will respond differently to certain spaces, conditions and temperatures, and emphasises the importance of utilising these factors in a positive way.
While girls seem to learn most effectively at a temperature of 24°C, boys prefer a cooler 21°C. Further scientific studies suggest that large atriums may produce a negative impact on girls, who learn better in small, intimate spaces, while soft surfaces produce a positive effect. Longer, hour-long classes suit girls better than boys, who perform better in short bursts of 30 minutes. These findings highlight the responsibility of the architect to design with these outcomes in mind, reiterating the power of effective architecture to change society for the better.

Our homes and its contents

While the house is a symbol of our place in society, the house interiors and its contents are a mirror of our inner psychological self.

Thus, throughout our lives, whether we are conscious of it or not, our homes and its contents are very potent statements about who we are.

Viena - Austria
For many people, their furniture, pictures, and other moveable objects are more powerful expressions of self than is the house-structure it self.

We display in the physical environment messages from the unconscious about who we are, who we were, and who we might become. Unable to comprehend all that is encapsulated in the psyche, we need to place it “out there” for us to contemplate, just as we need to view our physical body in a mirror.

Music & Design

Quebec - Canada
Like a song, which transports us to a place, a person, a moment,  a sensation, design does the same with us...

The musical experience is so personal, is inside of us and have meaning just for ourselves, if we can share it is better, but it has to have meaning for us, is part of our identity, our individuality, our personal story.

The design experience is the same, there are some special triggers that are inside of us, is a sensation, a memory.  Which are the triggers of these emotions? Is it a color, is a specific kind of light, is it something we look at, we touch, we smell?

The World's Happiest Countries

Amsterdam - Holanda
Interesting… Some geographical patterns, USA/Canada – New Zealand/Australia – Netherlands/Switzerland– the European Nordic Countries. Makes me think if there’s a pattern in regional people’s perception of happiness or how they organize the society to achieve it.

The beginning...

Estambul - Turquia
Some interesting things have happened since I started sharing this idea about design and emotions with my closest friends. So strong reactions, emotional and somehow self-judgment appears in all the conversations.

I presented the idea with the intention of receiving feedback on possible ways to go. How they see the concept and  if it can work?

Our house is a reflection of who we are, so the issues we have will be reflected there. Maybe not in a physically way but in our minds. Sometimes they become the top of the iceberg of something much deeper.

Playing the game

What is the last thing you see before you close your eyes “to” fall sleep? How it makes you feel? Is it inspired enough to dream about it?  Is it a picture of that beautiful place you always wanted to visit?

What is the first thing you see when you open your eyes? Does it tell you YEAH! This is MY DAY!!!!
Let’s play the game, and get inspired by design, with little triggers, our small private secrets.

Create amusement in your life! Freedom!
